I highly recommend this book on "Egyptian Mythology" by Geraldine Pinch THE book to begin any serious study ofthe Ancient Egyptian Gods & Goddesses & their mythology. It is understandable to both student & scholar. It is an excellentfoundation to the basic knowledge of Ancient Egyptian & their Deities.

The Egyptians were very serious about their gods and the afterlife, which was a key aspect of their worship. They had a lot of gods, different ones being more or less important depending on time period and geography. And the relationship among the gods was also very fluid. So it is a very complex topic without a fixed solution. "Egyptian Mythology" does a reasonable job of explaining the important gods and their primary relationships. Being about to understand what you are seeing when you confront a picture of a god within an Egyptian temple in Egypt is another entirely. The book is a first step but will not get you all the way to a comprehensive understanding.

Just started reading this and already hooked, usually the beginning of books is boring in my opinion, but this is just packed with information and curiosity right from the get go. Definitely get this if you're interested in Egyptian mythology and enjoy learning about where their ideas on beliefs and culture started from. Great quality as well.

This is a great book for anyone who loves ancient Egypt. Includes a ton of information besides the mythological side, but also the history as well. I like that the author remains objective and admits that certain points are mere theories or speculation and not fact. Which is important when dealing with the mysteries of the ancient world.

I was looking for a readable text that would walk me through high level the historical timeline of Egypt along with predominate stories behind the major gods and goddesses. This book does a fair job of that along with providing some contextual background at why it is complicated. The first half is readable, the second is more of a reference. My biggest complaint is that the text commonly references figures in the book without telling you what page they are on, so you have to hunt for them, often dozens and dozens of pages later. I think this gave me a nice into, but I'd like a more detailed text to continue my learning.

Bought it for research on a story I am writing and it is very informative. Egyptian mythology is convoluted and other sources just weren't making things clear to me, this book gave me all the answers I was looking for.

I found this book highly informative and an easy enough read. I like the way she separates the creation myths together from the different seats of power in Egypt as well as guiding the reader through her thoughts on the subject matter.

Reads like a textbook but contains lots of interesting info.
